Jan Henning is a young contemporary painter. He had influence from various mentors and art heroes by the likes of John-Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla.
His studio is based in the magnificent mountains of the small township of Kampersrus in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
Jan’s work is informed by nature, his own lived experiences, and his immediate surroundings. He puts a particular emphasis on the play of light and how this can influence our emotions. For Jan there is a direct correlation between light, our humanity, and the interaction with the Creator. Jan explores this with loose brush strokes, alla prima oil painting and simply painting what he sees with a sense of urgency.
The themes in his work explores loneliness, mental health and being at peace with oneself. These themes make the work relatable and evokes emotions that are scarce in the contemporary world.
Jan’s works are in museums, various collections across South Africa, Germany, USA and Mauritius.
